Jags hold a cleaning patch snugly against the bore so it wipes out fouling and solvent effectively. Pointed jags pierce the patch for a tight fit; loop jags hold the patch through an eye.

Choose patch size to give a snug, but not tight, fit.

Clean from the breech end where possible, use a bore guide to protect the chamber and crown, and replace brushes once they are worn.
